Newberg MOPS

Welcome to Newberg MOPS!

MOPS is a grassroots movement that believes moms are world influencers. We believe that incubating hearts and giving just-because-hugs can change the course of history. That’s why MOPS connects moms all over the world to a community of women, in their own neighborhoods, who meet together to laugh, cry and embrace the journey of motherhood. MOPS groups are rallying women to be more honest, to feel more equipped and to find our identity by journeying alongside one another.

MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers, and by preschoolers we mean kiddos from birth through kindergarten. We know it’s a little confusing so let’s just stick with “MOPS.”

We are moms, and we believe that better moms make a better world.

Introducing our 2017-2018 Leadership Team: JEAN

Name: Jean
Position: Fundraising (Holiday Bazaar and Burgerville*)

Family/Kids: My husband whom I have been married to for eight years, my daughter who is seven and my daughter who is two months old.

Favorite thing to do with my family:  Before having our second child we loved to get out in nature every weekend and go on long hikes or bike rides as a family.  Currently hiking and biking are put on hold until our littlest is a bit older, so this summer we have been enjoying just getting out of the house at all and going to the various farmer’s markets in the area.

Favorite thing to do by myself (without kids):  When I have the time, which is almost never with a new baby, but I know that time will come again, I love to read a great book and cook (not bake!)

Why I joined leadership: I decided to join leadership because I wanted to meet moms outside of the table group I was assigned and being part of leadership is the easiest way to do that!  I also think MOPS is a wonderful organization and so important for us moms of little ones that if I can give back in some way I wanted to.

What I enjoy most about MOPS: Since I am a full time stay at home mom knowing I will at least get to have adult conversation once a month with fellow moms that are going through similar life stages as myself was important!  I also really enjoy listening to the speakers each month and the wisdom they impart on us.

What I am looking forward to this year with MOPS:  I haven’t been a part of MOPS for the past two years since my first daughter started kindergarten so I am just excited I get to rejoin MOPS again.  I am excited to see old friends again and meet new moms.

What this year’s theme “free indeed” means to me (Let love be the loudest voice/Be Gutsy/Go First):  I like the idea of feeling “free” from the things that drag us down in our daily lives and I would like to live a life feeling a little lighter and free from the worry, self doubt, anger, the desire to change and control things that appear in our day to day life.

*FYI- you can save the date for these two fundraisers already! Burgerville fundraiser is Thursday, September 28th from 5-8pm and our Bazaar and Bake Sale will be Saturday, November 18th.

Introducing our 2017-2018 Leadership Team: HAYLEY

Name: Hayley

Position: MOPS Kids Coordinator

Family/Kids: my husband of seven years and our daughter 2.5 years old.

Favorite Thing to do with family: We love anything that gets us outside in God's beautiful creation; moving, and away from electronics! Lately, we have spent a lot of time kayaking as a family. Biking is also a family favorite, being outside is so refreshing.

Favorite Thing to do by myself (without kids): I love crafting. I am an avid knitter. I also enjoy learning graphic design and watercolor painting. Pretty much any time spent creating in solitude is energizing for me. (Introvert Alert!)

Why I joined Leadership: MOPS was an essential part of getting me through the hazy newborn days. I struggled with Post Partum Anxiety, as well as finding my new identity as a wife, mom, and daughter of Christ. MOPs gave my life much needed structure in addition to encouraging me to meet people. I want to give back by making sure this resource is available to more moms and children.

What I enjoy most about MOPS: I love that it hard to tell who loves it more; me or my daughter! We have both made some amazing friendships that I know will last a long time. I also love being so connected to our community. It’s hard to go any where in Newberg now without running into a familiar face, it’s great!

What I am looking forward to this year with MOPS: I cannot wait to connect with every mom and child who is a part of our village. I am thrilled to see how we can support one another and what God is going to do in everyones lives this year!

What this year’s theme “Free Indeed” means to me (Let Love be the Loudest Voice/Be Gutsy/Go First): The “FREE” part of this year's theme is so empowering to me. We are free to be BOLD and go first. When you let go of the self doubt or comparison that can weigh us down and recognize how God has uniquely gifted us, big things can happen. I often hesitate to step forward and be a leader; doubting that I am the right person for the job, but I know we are all just doing our best, and if someone is willing to step forward, others will follow and we can support each other. Here is to supporting our village this year!

Introducing our 2017-2018 Leadership Team: FAIRLIGHT

I thought we would start things off this year by introducing Publicity first...me. That's because I am the one that posts on the blog, runs the Facebook page, and checks the email, so I figured you might like a face to go with all of those posts and responses you are seeing!

Name: Fairlight

Position: Publicity—in charge of email, Facebook, etc.

Family/Kids: Hubby of 4 years; daughter, 2.5 years; son, 1 year

Favorite Thing to do with family: We just love hanging out all together with no distractions! But watching my kiddos play and discover is my favorite and they both love the outdoors, so being outside with them and my hubby is one of my favorite things- the beach, the park, wherever.

Favorite Thing to do by myself (without kids): I have recently discovered that my kiddos love for the outdoors may come from me. I always knew I loved the outside, but recently have found being outside alone on a trail or sitting and watching water is very refreshing to me. I think it is the act of blocking out all of the noise pollution and breathing in fresh air that is a current favorite thing of mine. I also love a good time with girlfriends.

Why I joined Leadership: I used to be a teacher and after becoming a stay-at-home mom I realized that one of the things I missed most was using the creative/problem-solving/planning part of my brain and being a part of something bigger. MOPS Leadership is the perfect fit for this! It lets me be a part of serving the bigger group, be creative in planning for what is coming up and the added bonus is I get to form deeper relationships with an awesome group of women who are like-minded!

What I enjoy most about MOPS: It has been a great place for me to be around other moms with varying viewpoints, backgrounds, and parenting styles, which has been really good for me as I figure out what kind of mom I am and want to be. I love the community, the chance to make friends, and the MENTOR MOMS!
And I love a kid-free meal where I get to be an adult for a little bit (or maybe be free from being an adult for a little bit is a more accurate description).

What I am looking forward to this year with MOPS: I’m looking forward to continuing to build relationships and expand my village. I’m looking forward to pushing myself outside of my comfort zone as an introvert as I work to meet all the people who go with the names I see on Facebook and email!

What this year’s theme “Free Indeed” means to me (Let Love be the Loudest Voice/Be Gutsy/Go First): I am really excited about this theme! I feel like it is a continuation of some of the things I have been examining in my own life. How can we be vulnerable together and allow each other the freedom to be our best selves? How do I give myself freedom to be who God created me to be and not just someone struggling to meet the demands of a very social media driven culture? In what ways can I go first, out of my comfort zone, so that relationships are strengthened, friendships are formed and lives are changed? Ladies, I am so pumped to explore this together in community!
